Tessa, a Story of perseverance and Passion

"What do you think of these?" Tessa asked as she pulled out her wardrobe picks for our session. O.M.G!!! She was rocking her outfits and I was so excited to start shooting!
As with most of my photoshoots, we talked while we worked. Tessa is one of the kindest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.   She is an addiction counselor who finds her deepest passions met by helping people find peace in their lives with their fight with addiction. "Everything just fell into place." she told me when I asked if she had an 'ah-ha' moment that led her to where she was.

Tessa grew up in a tiny town in central NY. Her early years were spent in low-income housing and watching her mom be a single parent and work to educate herself and gain her master's degree with the funding she qualified for. Tessa's dad struggled with addiction for her entire life. "After my dad overdosed, I felt more of the push to help others that also struggle."

Tessa's energy is quiet and calm. She is a natural caregiver and has a beautiful presence. Tessa recently achieved a life goal of opening up a private practice in Buffalo, NY. When I asked if she had advice for someone wondering how to achieve her level of success she answered "Trust the process. Know that there is a lesson in every struggle and say 'yes' to every opportunity."

Tessa was nervous when we first started shooting, but when I asked how she felt by the end of our time, she answered that she felt confident. Tessa was part of a group project I was holding and had the experience with other women. She told me that what she loved best about the time we spent together were the connections she made with the other women. "I felt like this was a tribe. Everyone struggles with confidence and rather than tearing each other down, we built each other up!"

I love my job. I cannot think of anything else in the world that I could be doing that would make me happier than meeting women like Tessa and helping them find their beauty and confidence.
